Site visits

You may be able to conduct in person site visits prior to your squad departure, or you may be able to view hotels, training fields, gym, pools and match venues online. Either way, ensure you are prepared with a list of questions. Below are some common areas of focus:

• Weather expectations for tournament time and suitable provision for sunny/wet weather: World Rugby Heat and Air Quality Guidelines
• Distance between hotel/training venue/gym/pool/match venue. A simple grid should be provided to you
• Variance in traffic from weekday to weekend, morning/evening, school in versus school holidays
• Hotel amenities including opening hours for coffee shops, foyer shops, pool, hotel gym etc
• Team room layout and equipment
• Bedroom tour (various bedroom types)
• Local amenities (supermarkets, laundrettes, coffee shops, cinemas, restaurants, local activities)
• Training venue(s) provision (as listed in previous section)
• In venue, size of changing rooms, size and position of medical/HIA rooms, other operational spaces, length of walk from change room to tunnel, technical zone v replacement bench configuration, camera positions.

Be prepared to take lots of photographs/video and notes if you are on site and record the session if it is online so you can share with other members of the squad.
