Proactivity and dynamic adaptation

TMOs view proactivity as an especially important trait for the TMO Operator to have. This is necessary to ensure the length of time looking for an incident is reduced. However, proactivity does not mean the TMO Operator should be looking for incidents in their own time or checking things to put in front of the TMO.

During the pre-match briefing, the TMO will indicate their operational preferences to the TMO Operator, establishing the direction and interaction levels they desire to support their decision making. As a default, during breaks in play, the TMO Operator may check the nature of any injuries to ensure that foul play is not missed. Unless directed by the TMO, the TMO Operator should not be rewinding during active play where the TMO may need to use the delay screen. For any incident requested by the TMO, they should have clips ready and lined up to show the TMO during a break in play.

The operator must stay focused and aware of the game to react to the TMO as quickly as possible. They should endeavour to listen to the discussion of the Referee and TMO before and on air.

Dynamic adaptation is where the TMO Operator needs to respond quickly should anything change during operations. The TMO Operator needs to take direction well and have their back up angles ready to be used. If the Referee or TMO want to see something else during a Formal Review, confirm this with the TMO to ensure accuracy, maintain composure and select clips as per normal procedure.
