If citing the match remotely

Pre-match (2-3 days prior):

  • Receive the Judicial Run Sheet from host union
  • Confirm your understanding of the Citing period and Team referral period
  • Confirm Match Manager and their contact details
  • Ensure you have access to electronic citing forms and email
  • Ensure the game is recorded and there is sufficient space on your device
  • Ensure you have the broadcaster contact details.

Lead in to game start (within an hour):

A Citing Commissioner Liaison Officer (CCLO) should always be present at the venue. They may work for the host union and could be the Match Manager, Referee Manager, or a local Citing Commissioner.

  • Contact the Citing Commissioner Liaison Officer at the ground (text or call) and ensure connectivity
  • Arrange to call them after the game
  • Set the expectation that they will make contact with team management prior to and after the game
  • Have a device or notebook on which to record your CC notes to assist the preparation of your match report.

During the match:

Note: Time of day is important. Normally the broadcaster does not record incidents according to the match clock. For reference they need the actual time of day using the 24-hour clock.

  • Stay as close to time of day and match time as possible to make this as simple as possible for the broadcaster when you request clips.
  • If you are using a remote with the live pause function if you fast forward or back the icon at the bottom left of the screen will tell you within a minute how far behind you are. Simple maths should then assist you to determine the actual time of day.
  • Note incidents in relation to the match clock and time of day.
  • Have your cell phone handy. If you think you will need clips note the cell phone actual time of day as this is the most accurate and common time across all participants.

Post-match:

Broadcaster

Note: You normally have about a 30-minute window to request clips.

  • The point of contact you will have is normally the television producer who is managing the broadcast live to air. They are too busy to talk to you until they come off air
  • Stay watching the live broadcast as the point where they move from ground broadcast to studio after the game is an important juncture. This is about 15 minutes after the game finishes. You also have a limited time to talk to the broadcaster at the ground
  • Immediately after finishing transmitting from the ground the outside broadcast capability will pack up and move overnight to the next broadcast location. This gives you about a 30-minute window to request clips
  • Before they pack up broadcast footage is committed to tape and deleted from digital storage. Access to new angles is highly limited after this.

Note: This role will be outlined in more detail in the following pages.

  • Contact the CCLO at the end of the match to ask them if there is anything they saw that is of concern. Check that they will now contact the team managers to see if they have any referrals. (Referrals must be in writing within the prescribed period.)
  • You may ask the CCLO to seek statements, medical reports or photographs to support a citing. This is covered in the section on Information Gathering and Investigations.
