Sideline Manager
The Sideline Manager oversees all activities but can be distanced from direct interactions with the Team Managers. This is because these interactions can sometimes become intense during sideline exchanges and having a more neutral arbiter to lean on can often help to resolve the situation.
Communication
The Sideline Managers should have a push to talk device where possible but should use it with discretion (primary communication with the referee should be through the Technical Zone Managers). At a minimum, the Sideline Manager will have a listen-only device so that they can hear what is being communicated to and by the referee.
For Sevens matches, it may be practical for the Sideline Manager to be the primary communicator with the referee via a push to talk device.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversight and overall responsibility for all player movements
- Management of Technical Zone Controllers to ensure accuracy and compliance with Law for all player movements and sideline activities
- Management of Match Recorder to ensure accurate recording of all player movements and the score, including timings
- Act as a point of escalation for all events involving the Sideline Official Team.
Hierarchy
The Manager takes responsibility as the leader of the team throughout the match but is answerable directly to the Match Referee and the Match Commissioner.
