Timekeeper

The Timekeeper is responsible for managing the timing of the match either through a timing system or manually.

Communication

The Timekeeper will have direct communication with the Match Referee (via push to talk).

Responsibilities include:

  • Keeping match time (i.e., kick-off to end of half accounting for time on/time off)
  • Managing the Shot Clock as required by law
  • Communicating time with the Referee where agreed
  • The Timekeeper may also be required to input the following into a timing system to display within the venue:
    • Score
    • Number of tries scored
    • Yellow Card countdowns
    • Red Cards (including countdowns where appropriate).

Hierarchy

The Timekeeper answers directly to the Match Referee.

Location

It is strongly recommended that the Timekeeper has an unobstructed line of sight to the Referee and sits as close as possible to the big screen operator, especially where the output from the timing system is going directly to them.
