Utilising a SWOT template
By the end of this section, participants should be able to understand how SWOT analysis can be used to analyse the opposition, how this analysis can modify a game model, and what elements to include in a presentation to coaches' or teams'.
When a game model has been created, and an understanding of how a team wants to play is achieved, the next element for a performance analyst to consider is how the opposition is likely to play in the next match. Understanding how the opposition plays may highlight opportunities where a team’s strength can target the opposition’s weaknesses, or how their threats can be neutralized.
This simplest tool to undertake an analysis of the opposition is a SWOT analysis. A SWOT analysis is a tool used in sport and business to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of a team, and using the findings to make informed decisions about how a team could play.

Involving performance analysts, coaches and players in a SWOT analysis is a great way to gain additional insights and new ideas, rather than the analyst conducting the activity on their own.
