- Able to link effectively with midfield and back three to maintain continuity of play
- Able to adopt starting position quickly in attacking line (width and depth)
- Able to select, implement and communicate correct decisions during attack – run/dummy run/pass/kick – according to game plan and amend if necessary
- Able to offer many attacking options in attack by looking for involvement, entering the backline with pace and movement
- Able to select, implement and communicate correct decisions during defence – alignment and strategy – according to game plan and amend if necessary
- Able to create, identify, communicate, manipulate and exploit space in attack
- Able to recognise, communicate and fill space in defence
- Able to support team members in attack and defence

- Able to adopt correct position to cover the back field, considering weather/field conditions and opposition strengths
- Able to cover the back field as a team of three if the wingers are involved in play – e.g. if a winger has moved forward to make a tackle
- Able to work as a team of three with the two wingers during counter attack
- Able to provide support around the contact area
- Able to catch effectively in the air
