Preseason SCAT5© baseline testing can be useful for interpretating post-injury test scores, but is not required for that purpose. In the absence of baseline testing, World Rugby has identified reference range baseline data relating to over 700 individual Rugby players.

If no baseline data is available, the following should be considered strongly in favour of a diagnosis of concussion:

• Symptom checklist
• Cognitive screen
• Neurological screen
