Preseason SCAT6© baseline testing can be useful for interpretating post-injury test scores, but is not required for that purpose. In the absence of baseline testing, World Rugby has identified new normative data from 13,479 baseline SCATs from 7,565 elite adult rugby players which can be used when baseline data is not available. 

If no baseline data is available, the following should be considered strongly in favour of a diagnosis of concussion:

• Symptom checklist
• Cognitive screen
• Neurological screen
