Capturing

Capturing (encoding) footage describes the process of recording footage through a live process onto a laptop. Capturing onto a laptop has many benefits:

• It saves time transferring video from a camera over to a laptop
• If using specialist analysis software, the video can be viewed by a coach or analyst whilst training or a match is being performed
• The analyst can begin to label or tag key events live instead of waiting for the match to finish before beginning.

Even though there are many advantages to capturing footage live, it is always best to keep a file of the raw footage in case the encoding equipment fails.
