Introduction

On identifying a player who as collapsed in a cardiac arrest; the immediate call for help, check for safety and the start of good quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation is vital if there is any chance of the player obtaining a return of spontaneous circulation. The emphasis is particularly on good quality chest compressions at the correct rate and depth for the casualty.

This chapter will focus on cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the adult and child, and will also cover choking and the role of the recovery position in ill or injured players.
