Post-game day care

Players with concussion should have medical follow-up. Serial monitoring of symptoms, cognition and balance (as tested in the SCAT6) is helpful to assess return to pre-injury baselines. Worsening symptoms, pronounced amnesia, progressive balance dysfunction, or a focal neurological deficit on examination, could be signs of intracranial pathology and should prompt specialist evaluation and neuro-imaging.

The initial treatment of concussion consists of relative physical and cognitive rest. In the early stages of a concussion recovery, the player should not engage in physical or cognitive activities that result in any increase in symptoms.
