Developing fundamental movements for rugby

This module introduces fundamental movement skills and their importance in the development of child rugby players. The categories of fundamental movement skills will also be introduced as well as stages of movement skill competence. The progression of fundamental movement skills and the practice of developing athletic motor skills will also be introduced.

Strength training for children will be introduced. This is generally a contentious concept when training children.

By the end of this module the coach should have an increased awareness of the key fundamental movement skills and how to develop them in child rugby players. The coaches should also have a better understanding of strength training for children and why it can be beneficial to include it in training programmes.
