Module summary

In this module, the different categories of fundamental movement skills and how these movement skills apply to rugby performance have been introduced. Practical examples of activities for each category of fundamental movement skills have also been provided for the coach to use with their players.

Athletic movement skills and the development of fitness capacities alongside the fundamental movement skills was examined as this could benefit the children as they grow and mature playing the game of rugby.

Strength training for children was discussed and it was highlighted that strength training is very useful and safe for children and that it can help with injury prevention and performance as the child grows and matures.

The coach is advised to develop and progress fundamental and athletic movement skills in their training programmes.
