Instrumented Mouthguard (IMG) protocol for Match Day Doctors

Introduction

For all elite competitions starting after January 2024, real-time alerts from an instrumented mouthguard (IMG) are included as an indication for an off-field HIA1 assessment. If a player experiences a head acceleration event exceeding the alert threshold, the independent match day doctor (MDD) will receive this alert and inform the match officials that the player be removed for an off-field assessment.

This is an additional indicator to the clinical process and not a replacement, players are still to be removed with Criteria 1 and Criteria 2 signs, even without the data from the mouthguard triggering an alert.

This module sets out the information that the MDD needs to know to operate the IMG alerts on match day.
