Concussion Management for Match Day Medical Staff using the HIA Protocol

Welcome to the Concussion Management for Match Day Medical Staff using the HIA Protocol online resource.

The role of the Match Day Doctor (MDD) as an independent Doctor at Test Rugby was established in 1999 by the International Rugby Board. In 2011, the IRB Medical Conference determined that this role should be reviewed. As a result of this, a working group was established to review the duties of the MDD and to identify definitions surrounding blood injury. An additional working group was established following the 2011 IRB Medical Conference charged with developing a Head Injury Assessment (HIA) process.

This resource has been developed to provide Match Day Medical Staff with an understanding of the role of the Match Day Doctor and of the implementation of the Head Injury Assessment process.
