Game Demands
All coaches should have an understanding of the physical demands of the game. By understanding the physical stresses placed on the body during the game, the coach can plan appropriate training programmes to prepare their players accordingly.
The game demands of adult rugby differ from those of youth rugby (covered in the Conditioning for Youths online learning module). However, the principles of warm-up and recovery discussed in the game demands section of the Conditioning for Youths online learning module, still apply to adult rugby. If you need to refresh your knowledge of warm-up and recovery then please revisit this module.
This module will address the physical demands of the adult game and the subsequent implications for training adult players.
By the end of this module, the coach should have an increased awareness of the demands of both the seven-a-side and fifteen-a-side variations of the game. This should help to inform the design of their training programmes.
