Module summary
This module introduced some more advanced methods of weight training, speed training and agility training. It is important to remember players are required to have a suitable training age rather than chronological age before they are exposed to more advanced training methods.
Weight training methods for the outcomes of size, strength and power have been introduced along with a sample training programme.
Resisted and assisted speed training techniques along with reactive agility techniques were also highlighted for inclusion into training plans.
The coach should now have an increased awareness of the general conditioning methods available to prepare their players physically for the demands of rugby. Coaches should also be able to design and implement drills and training plans to help develop these physical attributes.
