Module summary
This module introduced how to train and develop the important components of fitness for rugby for children. Physiological considerations when designing training plans for children were also highlighted. Some key physiological reasons affecting the development of physical capacities in children such as nervous system development, limb growth and energy system development were discussed.
The importance of play and fun in developing these components of fitness indirectly through games and activities promoting rugby skill development was emphasised.
Keeping it fun is the best way to develop the important physical capacities in children as it will still allow them to play the game and enjoy their training.
Coaches should now have a better understanding of these important factors. Practical examples of games and activities were provided for integration into training programmes.
