Introduction

The correct management of sporting wounds is important if infection rates and other complications are to be kept to a minimum. The need to return a player back to the field of play at the earliest opportunity e.g. within the 15 minute blood replacement window in rugby union, adds further pressure and may limit what can be achieved in that time window. Temporising measures may therefore be employed e.g. tissue adhesive glue, which can then be removed after the match to allow for more thorough cleaning and exploration of the wound before definitive closure.
