Additional principles of training

Along with the FITT principles there are additional principles of training that need to be considered. These additional principles form the theoretical foundation upon which any training programme is designed. These are:

  • Adaptation
  • Specificity
  • Overload
  • Reversibility
  • Individualisation
  • Variation

Each of these principles is important and will be explored in more detail. If these principles of training are not considered when designing a training plan, then the plan may not yield the desired outcome.
