Potentiate

The main aims of the potentiate stage are to increase the intensity to closely match the upcoming activity and to make the warm-up drills or exercise more specific to the demands of the sport (Jeffreys, 2007). This is the final stage of the warm-up. It is focused on achieving a seamless transition from warm-up into competition so the players can begin the game or training fully prepared. This stage can also be a good way of including some extra speed and agility work as they are generally high intensity drills and like sporting actions that will occur in rugby. Planning this section properly, coaches can correctly prepare the body for the upcoming activity as well as getting in some extra training volume in activities such as speed and agility work (Jeffreys 2007).
