Preparing for resistance training
Proper conditioning and physical training plays an important role in preparing for the demands of the game, reducing the risk of injury, and executing sport-specific skills. Performance on the field is aided by a well-designed physical conditioning programme. Fundamental movement skills, strength, power, endurance, and speed can all be improved with a structured physical conditioning programme and these improvements in physical qualities should transfer to improvements in on-field performance. As a result, it is important that the coach is aware of the principles and theories that underpin an effective physical conditioning training plan. Furthermore, the coach is encouraged to understand of the role of fundamental movement skill development within the overall conditioning programme.
By the end of this module, the coach should be able to describe the key principles of physical training and their importance. Coaches should also be able to design and implement a general conditioning circuit which can be used to develop fundamental movement skills as well as conditioning the player.
