Programme Management and Player Monitoring

This section investigates how a coach can manage and plan their training programmes. Periodisation will be introduced, and examples given on how the valuable physical qualities for rugby such as hypertrophy, strength and power can be periodised and planned over an 8-week period.

Some common models of Periodisation will be provided, and their advantages and disadvantages examined. Periodisation is not without its challenges, especially in a team sport environment.

Planning and training considerations for the female player will also be introduced.

Workload monitoring and the uses of advanced technologies (GPS and velocity-based measurement) to help a coach plan and keep track of the workload the players are experiencing will also be covered.
